Carnyx
For six months, from 2008 to 2009, I was the non-executive director of publishing and events company Carnyx Group, the people behind marketing trade magazine The Drum. I’ve been an agony uncle to The Drum since 2007, providing marketing ‘advice’ to the magazine’s readers so was delighted to join the company in a more formal capacity. My role saw me sharing my knowledge and experience with the company’s existing directors, helping to oversee the development of the Marketing Industry Network (MIN).

Alvaston Media
From autumn 2007 to Summer 2008 I was delighted to be non-executive chairman of Alvaston media PLC. My time as Interim Chairman saw the business establish itself in new office in central Manchester. We established a new Board and recruited a Management team for Alvastons creative agency, Creation. I ended my time with Alvaston upon the successful acquisition of a Lancashire-centric, aspirational lifestyle and fashion publication ‘The Magazine’. As Alvaston moved away from traditional advertising and marketing arenas I felt the time was right to leave.

Media Displays Limited
From Spring 2009 to Autumn 2009 I was non-exec director of Media Displays Ltd, a market leader in outdoor mobile digital advertising.

Media Displays Ltd provide digital advertising vehicles (digi-vans) with screens measuring 6 metres, capable of displaying large format digital advertising to a broad audience or in to highly defined market segments – you may have seen one of the vans in action in the hunt for missing Claudia Lawrence.

MD Ian Taylor invited me to come on board to help propel the company to new levels. I have known Ian for several years and always admired his passion and drive. As well as helping drive the company forward I supported Ian on issues such as finances, staffing, prospects, customers and marketing – all in a bid to fulfil his ambitious growth plans for Media Displays.
