Leeds University
Carl held a workshop entitled ‘How to market yourself’ for Leeds University members of the White Rose Centre for Excellence in the Teaching and Learning of Enterprise (WRCETLE) group. WRCETLE enables students and staff to develop enterprise skills so that they are equipped to make an impact as effective students, graduates, employees and employers.
Thank you ever so much for coming over yesterday and speaking to the students. I found the talk very inspiring and I think the students did to – always good to have advice from someone who has been there and done it! Sarah Underwood, Teaching Fellow

Leeds College of Art
Carl delivered a presentation on ‘marketing yourself’ to members of the Leeds Creative Network at his former college.
Thank you very much for such a passionate and ****ing funny presentation of your top tips to our network. The feedback has been very good indeed. The sheets I collected said “excellent – energetic – inspiring – good atmosphere – excellent speaker – great event – lots of positive steps starting from NOW – sound advice – Brill.
The audience obviously had a good time and were hanging on your every word. I particularly liked your well illustrated presentation and, of course, the stories which bring good advice to life.
Many, many thanks Carl. It was delightful to meet you and I am sure it will remain one of our most memorable events.
Ms. Bridget A. M. Marc, Enterprise Coordinator, Leeds College of Art & Design
The West Yorkshire Forget Me Not Trust

Carl was approached by The West Yorkshire Forget Me Not Trust to help them review their fundraising activities and plans for the next 12 months. The team has the huge challenge of raising just short of £3million and wanted some expert input into how they could achieve this goal by approaching the fundraising from a more commercial viewpoint.
“Carl visited the offices of The West Yorkshire Forget Me Not Trust to spend the afternoon working with the team. During the hours he spent with us we found the session to be really motivational – uplifting and encouraging. Although we are a charity, Carl helped the staff to realise we have to think very commercially in terms of income generation. He covered areas of team structures, Direct Marketing and Branding. It was a fantastic afternoon and left us with many positive ideas and avenues to explore.” Karen Dineen, Head of Fundraising,The West Yorkshire Forget Me Not Trust

Simon’s Street Community
Following Carl’s appearance on ‘The Secret Millionaire’ he was contacted by many charities, one of which was based in his home town of Leeds. After meeting with Leeds Simon Community, which provides practical and emotional support for homeless people, he was invited to spend time with the board of trustees to discuss how to raise their profile and increase funds.
I think we all gained a much greater insight into marketing and how we can keep things moving positively along the way. I’m also sure that in the space of 2 or 3 hours you seemed to cram in more than we could have hoped to gain from a 2 or 3 day course! Your energy and enthusiasm was pitched perfectly for us; we like to get excited about the future and you have certainly made us do that! Thanks for your support.Clive Sandle, Director, Leeds Simon Community
Throughout my career, I have had many experiences of marketing experts presenting their ideas and secrets. I found your contribution the most stimulating I have been involved in and your passion for charitable causes is clearly evident. Your energy and enthusiasm was refreshing and your clear, direct and straight talking approach was really powerful. On behalf of all the Trustees, thank you! You have made us all think and helped us prepare for action. Ian McKenzie, Chairman, Leeds Simon Community

Marie Curie
Carl was invited to come and brainstorm for a specific fundraising event to take place in early 2009.
Thank you for attending the meeting yesterday, it was just what we needed – some plain, down to earth comments. I look forward to meeting you again and to working together. Brian Curran, Marie Curie Cancer Care’s Community Fundraising Manager for West Yorkshire

Martin House Children’s Hospice
Carl went to meet with the fundraising team to help create new ideas for raising funds via their lottery for this vital regional facility.
What a great morning we have had – our heads are still buzzing from our meeting as such great ideas came out of it. You have given us so much food for thought – thank you for being so honest. We know that it’s the only way we can learn.
It will be good for us to focus on the points you raised and, no doubt, we will certainly work on ways in which we can try and retain our current lottery members. Most of all, we will get the consistency in our advertising and promotional literature sorted out straight away!
“Wow…we have a lot to do! Thanks once again for your time and trouble in coming to see us. It was great to meet you.
Julie Henderson, Corporate fundraiser, Martin House Hospice
JUMP
(Jacob’s Unique Memory Pot)
Carl spent time with the founders of JUMP to help them promote a new family run charity to help terminally ill children and their families.
Meeting up with Carl not only provided us with coffee but some very valuable and honest feedback on our current position and the small achievable things that we could do quickly to make a big difference.
“You encouraged us to focus on one or two key areas where we can make some small developments that will give us a great leap forward. Thanks for making the time to visit us and we would hope to be able to meet you again in the near future to share our success stories with you. Christine Hawthorn, Chairperson, Jump
